Steffen Lindek
Steffen has a scientific background and works as a data modeler and semantic engineer on projects ranging from schema development to the maintenance of messaging systems.
Steffen studied physics in Aachen, Lausanne, and Heidelberg. He did his diploma and PhD theses at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), Heidelberg, where he developed novel light-microscopy techniques, for which several patents were granted. As a post-doctoral fellow with the BioImage project at EMBL, he worked on the design and the implementation of a database for microscopy images.
Since 2000, Steffen has been working as a freelance scientific database and metadata consultant for various academic and commercial clients, mostly in the UK and in Germany. During this time, he acquired extensive experience in the analysis of data requirements for business processes, the development of metadata schemas and ontologies, and the support of data management and exchange.
Recently, Steffen was involved in projects relating to data modeling, architecture design and ontology development for clients such as the International Digital Object Identifier (DOI) Foundation, and in building ontologies to support XML messaging standards such as DDEX and ONIX. His current focus is the Rights Data Integration (RDI) project, where he works on data mapping.
